Our Mission

“We care for people,
investing our lives into theirs
for a return that pleases God.”

Think back to your school days . . . remember how relieved you were when your teacher told you what would be covered on the final exam and gave you the answers in advance? With clear expectations and the answers, you could focus your study time on only the things that would count for the test. It was even better when it was “open book”—you had the source of the answers with you to search as needed.

We have an “open book” to the biggest test of all–life.[1]

For that reason, at least to the leaders assigned to equip people[2] at Life Christian Fellowship, discovering and operating in alignment with our “Kingdom Purpose”—God’s eternal priorities for our lives and businesses—is critical. We’re certainly not perfect, but as we discover and are prompted by God’s Holy Spirit, that’s exactly what you’ll receive from us on Sunday morning at Leaders’ Corner or wherever we choose to meet.

God is the Rightful Owner of, well… everything![3] Our response to that as Christfollowers is to steward (manage) all that He has entrusted to us the way He would have it done.[4] Our work, our play, or waking up and laying down, the words we speak, the decisions we make… EVERYTHING!  Every action we take—must be an act of worship, conducted in obedience to and alignment with Him.

Now, from time to time, I get a little stuck in my head.  On my best days, you’d see it as laser-focused.  On my worst, you might say, “OCD?”

I enjoy bible study and I can get micro-focused on things that are “true,” but not really important.  For example: when I began to work on finding out the things that Jesus commanded, I did a search in the ESV for imperative verbs—commands—in all the things Jesus said.  In case you were wondering, Jesus issued 1,587 commands in 584 verses.  Cool… but not a factoid I’d say was really important.

Especially since Jesus summed it up for us, telling us what all of His commands boil down to.

Jesus said this, in response to the question spoken by a smart-alec attorney (really… look it up!)…

Jesus replied, “ ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

(Matthew 22:37–40, NLT)

That’s pretty clear, but I think you might like how it would be translated if there were such thing as the RSCRNT (Revised Shelby County Red Neck Translation).

“Love God, and empowered and equipped by that relationship, Love people. That’s the foundation for every word written in the bible.”

So, given that crystal clear summary, here’s our mission at Life Christian Fellowship.

“We care for people,
investing our lives into theirs
for a return that pleases God.”

Endnotes

[1]All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16–17, NLT)

[2]Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:11–13, NLT)

[3]For the life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human being.” (Job 12:10, NLT)

For what gives you the right to make such a judgment? What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?” (1 Corinthians 4:7, NLT)

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,” (1 Corinthians 6:19, NLT)

[4]My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20, NLT)
